First post, possibly of many

Well having seen tonight that one of my football coaches has got one of these (not so) newfangled blog thingies I thought I'd set one up for myself. Maybe it will end up being the same as all my other attempts at keeping some kind of journal, but we'll just have to see won't we...

So what's going on with me at the moment? I suppose the biggest thing really is that I have an interview to get on a project at work this Wednesday, and the best bit is that its based locally, so no more hotel food for me. Not that its been a big problem lately anyway - I haven't done a full day's work since June last year when I went into hospital - its basically been a free ride on full pay for almost a year. Time to get my arse in gear and earn my keep again I guess. I just hope I get the role as its got the potential to be very long term, which is just what i need right now - a bit of stability.

The other thing going on is football, as usual. I'm back at training tomorrow with the Rams, and I have a feeling things will be a bit subdued what with Wayne Smith's funeral being last Thursday. I don't think I ever met the guy, but from what everyone has said about him on the different forums I guess its a shame I didn't. Sounds like he was a top bloke. RIP Wayne.

Thinking about that brings back memories of when I went to John McMillan's funeral. Seeing his family there and teammates past and present really brought it home that we're not all here forever and I should have got to know him better when I had the chance. Maybe something's telling me to get to know the guys at the Rams a bit better - after all anything can happen I guess...

That's it for now I guess. A bit depressing really for a first entry, but there you go. Get used to it. Being maudlin or ranting about something (or as my mate Tim calls it 'having rage face') is what being a Yorkshireman's all about isn't it?

BFG

PS - An explanation of the name - BFG stands for Broken Fingered Guitarist, a name I gave myself to use on the internet after damaging both my little fingers playing american football and being unable to play the guitar for several months. Any relation to cartoon giants is purely coincidental...
