Work. Don't you love it?

Well actually - that's not quite as sarcastic as it could be.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not be rising at 6:30, spending close to 4 hours a day on the peasant wagon, getting in at 7:30 and going to bed at 10 every night so I can get my 8 hours sleep, but other than that its not actually a bad project. Its a small project team of 4 (unlike the 300 strong one at the hole that they call Lytham) and they're all really cool people.

The work is interesting - working mainly with geographical mapping software over a number of platforms - and to be honest getting out of bed at 6:30 has probably been the easiest bit of all, and considering the fact I've not been out of bed much before 10 whenever I could help it for almost a year now I think that's pretty good going.

The best bit is, the guys that I'm working with seem to be - for the most part at least - pretty much self-taught programmers, meaning that although they have a leg up on me as far as the GIS (mapping systems) side of things go, I can probably more than hold my own from a nuts and bolts technical standpoint. And on top of that, they seem fairly in the dark about the way IBM works as well, so the whole thing has some serious potential for advancing my career. Although I've (once again!) almost fallen into the job without really looking for it, the journey to and from the site is really the only downside. With any luck ,give it 6 months and I'll be demanding payrises (since its been more than 2 years since my last one!).

Hannah gets back on Saturday too, which I'm really looking forward to. I really think the time apart will have done us some good and we can get back to being closer to each other again. It's felt more like best mates than boyfriend and girlfriend the last month or so, and the fact that I now have a job (and she can see I'm not actually a layabout and I do actually work hard when I have something to work at!) will hopefully mean she'll be able to get past the fact that she works hard and I don't!

The BAFA (British American Football Association) meeting is this Saturday too - timed just nicely so that Rich can't get to the Bulldogs camp (again!) - and I've asked him if he ants me to go don ith him. Hopefully he'll take me up on it because I (perversely I suppose) actually enjoy the meetings - plus they're bound to start moaning about registration again, and I really want to kick their butts over it personally, rather than by proxy...

Anyway - time to go home.

BFG
